Bearing a False Witness
“Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him.” 1 John 2:4
The Word of God speaks very clear about bearing a false witness against your neighbor, but what about bearing a false witness against yourself? There is an ole gospel song that asks the question “Is my living in vain? Maybe you’ve heard of it but for those of you that have not, here are the following lyrics. The song says:
Is my living in vain?
Is my giving in vain?
Is my singing in vain?
Is my praying in vain? Then it goes on to say in the second verse….
Am I wasting my time?
Can the clock be rewind?
Have I let my light shine?
Have I made 99? No, of course not…..
The reality of it beloveds is that a false witness is not only a person who deliberately gives a false testimony (against their neighbor) but a false witness can also live a false testimony as well. A person that lives a false testimony does without any hindrances live a life that is not in accordance with the facts or reality or the actuality of the word of God, which is the will of God for our lives. They parade, presume, and pretend themselves to be living the most Holy Life but all along they are living a false tale and they are presenting a false account to others that they are indeed what the Lord says they should be.
What does the bible say to us about Christian values and Christian living?
#1) Are we worshiping only God –
The bible tells us that the first commandment is to Love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. (Mark 12:28-30)
#2) Are we respecting all people –
The second commandment for us is – You shall love your neighbor as yourself. (Mark 12:31)
#3) Are we walking in humility –
Let no one seek his own, but each one the other’s well-being. (I Corinthians 10:24)
#4) Are we living honestly –
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. (I John 1:8)
#5) Are we living a moral life –
Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s. (I Corinthians 6:19-20)
#6) Are we generous with our time and money –
The Bible tells us to share generously with those in need, and good things will come to us in turn. “give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap; for the measure you give will be the measure you get back." (Luke 6:38)
#7) Are we practicing what we preach –
"Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thorns, or figs from thistles? In the same way, every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus you will know them by their fruits. (Matthew 7:15-20)
#8) Are we acting self-righteous –
Do not judge, so that you may not be judged. For with the judgment you make you will be judged, and the measure you give will be the measure you get. Why do you see the speck in your neighbor's eye, but do not notice the log in your own eye? Or how can you say to your neighbor, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' while the log is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your neighbor's eye. (Matthew 7:1-5)
#9) Are we harboring offenses & holding grudges –
You have heard that it was said, 'Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.' But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. (Matthew 5:38-40) You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. (Matthew 5:43-45)
#10) Are we forgiving others –
If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins. (Matthew 6:14-15)
